MPE grand piano

grand

A grand piano you actually play. Pressure, slide, key-bend, all the things a real piano won't let you do.

Full craft. One email for the license file. Optional updates if you want them.

What it does

A grand piano you actually play.

Grand is a deep stereo grand piano sample bank wrapped in per-voice MPE control. Pressure shapes felt damping (more pressure, warmer release). Slide opens room ambience. Per-key bend on Osmose lets each note speak independently in pitch. CC64 sustain works as you'd expect.

The point isn't a new piano sound - it's the gestures a real piano can't give you. A swell after the hammer struck. A bend that belongs to one note in a chord. Room space that breathes under your hand.

MPE routing

Five axes, one keyboard.

Pressure (Z)
Felt damping. Press into a held note to warm its release; the longer you press, the more felt sits between hammer and string.
Slide (Y)
Room ambience. Move along the key surface to open or close the virtual room around the piano.
Bend (per-key)
On Osmose: each key bends independently. The note next to the held chord moves while the others stay put.
Velocity
Hammer articulation. Selects which sample layer is foregrounded and how much hammer noise is in the attack.
CC64
Sustain pedal. Works as a sustain pedal does. We didn't try to be clever about this one.

Requirements

What it runs on, today.

Quiver plugins are designed MPE-first and tested in real workflows before they ship. The supported set is deliberately narrow right now so every shipped plugin works the way the page describes. Wider coverage comes as each host gets a full pass.

OS support

macOS on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer), VST3 and AU. Windows 10 or later, VST3, 64-bit. Intel Macs are not yet supported.

Tested in

Ableton Live 12, Bitwig Studio, Reaper, and Logic Pro. Other MPE-aware VST3 / AU hosts should work.

Controllers

Designed for Osmose, Push 3, Seaboard, LinnStrument, Continuum. Plays as a complete static patch on any MIDI keyboard; the per-finger gestural surface unlocks the day an MPE controller arrives.

Grand is built on the Salamander Grand Piano V3 sample set, a public open work licensed CC-BY 3.0. We've added our MPE work and the Quiver visual language on top, then released the whole thing free in that same spirit. One email for the license file, no upsell, no nag screens.
